Mankind United, as such,s erves the role of the ROman Empire, with Earth being Rome. In my opinion, the most important event that led to the rise of the Middle Ages was the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the end of the political domination of Rome over Europe, that allowed statelets to rise in the chaos, some expanding and forming lasting nations such as France. To explain mankind United, I have to explain the aim fo my world: reproduce the setting of the European Middle Ages ina world of Science-Fiction, with all the constraints that come with it (kinda similar to Honor Harrington being the Wars of the French Revolution in space). Not a precursor race (humans are the only focus of the setting, ALiens take a balce far away in the back), but a precursor nation: Mankind United. They can also retroactively erase their enemies from time- so perhaps they're only peaceful because everyone they didn't like never existed. While "eccentric," they're also a source of great wisdom and insight as a result of their long lives and unique perspective. A Guardian platform is the size of a frigate, and its capabilities may as well be magic- they perceive time in a non-linear way, they can alter reality around themselves and seem to consider basic causality more of a guideline than actual rules. Both are heavily degraded by time, but still serviceable. There used to be billions of Guardians- now there's only two known. The last remnants of their people created advanced machines called Guardians to shelter worlds with primordial life on them, so even after their own extinction, life could have a chance in the Milky Way. Indirectly, the Local Arm's races know that the ancients were wiped out in a galaxy-spanning war against another (presumably intergalactic) power. Beyond that, almost nothing is known of them directly. They existed millions of years before the present day as a sprawling galactic empire, and shared a singular culture and advanced technology. A popular theory among fans is that the Progenitors are in fact human, originated from Earth.Mine does, though precious little is known about them.It would, however, be possible if that other unknown race was significantly more advanced and more powerful. However, given the rarity of derelicts and wreckage left over by the Progenitors, it is considered unlikely that they fought and lost a war against a rival race. There are several theories about their final fate, including viral extinction, internal conflict, or simply choosing to leave on their own volition. It is unknown what caused the Progenitors to leave the known galaxy. Such technology would be, however, extremely advanced even for the likes of the Progenitors. There are also theories about the Progenitors developing technology capable of creating intelligent life forms, allowing the Progenitors to 'seed' the galaxy with different variants of intelligent life. It was only when the three Cores were united within Sajuuk that the Eye of Aarran could be accessed. The Progenitors left their three Hyperspace cores hidden in different places throughout the Galaxy. This hyperdrive technology led to the Eye of Aarran, a vast network of self-supported hyperspace gates stretching throughout the galaxy. The Progenitors also developed extremely powerful hyperdrives capable of making galactic jumps in less than a second and transporting whole fleets within the galaxy and beyond. Progenitor ships seem to have highly efficient heat diffusion systems, allowing for powerful weaponry to be installed such as those found on the Progenitor Dreadnaught and Keeper. Most armed Progenitor ships, such as the Progenitor Drones and Keepers were completely automated, likely to spare the Progenitors themselves from having to engage in combat. In addition, the reliability of their technology was such that almost all of their creations remained fully functional despite the thousands of years of the Progenitors' absence. Many of their ships were exceedingly durable and could sustain withering firepower from Vaygr and Hiigaran weaponry before succumbing to battle damage. The Progenitors possessed highly advanced technology that far surpassed that of all other spacefaring civilizations even millennia after their departure from the Galaxy. Their empire and influence spanned nearly the entire galaxy, and many Progenitor relics, such as the Great Network of Hyperspace Gates, the three Hyperspace cores, and others, have been found in its farthest corners. The Progenitors arrived in the Homeworld galaxy before the Galactic Dating System began, over 10,000 years before the Dust War. Very little is known about who the Progenitors were, where they came from, or what became of them.
